Master of money

How many of us are ‘masters of money’? There are many rich people in this world; but masters of money are few. There are only two options available with money. Be a master of money or a slave of money. There exists not a third option. So every person is either a master of money or a slave of money.

Once Jesus said “None is able to serve two lords, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will hold to the one, and despise the other; ye are not able to serve God and Mammon.” (The Bible, Matthew 6:24. YLT)

‘Mammon’ in the above sentence represented money, wealth, power, fame, honour, success etc. Whom we serve is our master.  Are we serving money or the money serving us?

Who is a master? A good definition for a master is available in the Bible. One day a Roman Centurion (an army official who is in charge of 100 soldiers) requested Jesus to heal his sick servant. Jesus was willing to visit his house for that purpose. But the centurion pleaded by his gentile birth and his unworthiness for a Jew like Jesus to visit his house. He requested Jesus to pronounce a command to the disease so that it will leave his servant. The next sentence of the centurion speaks a volume on master – slave relationship. Let us read:  “For I also am a man under authority, having under myself soldiers, and I say to this one, Go, and he goeth, and to another, Be coming, and he cometh, and to my servant, Do this, and he doth it.” (The Bible, Matthew 8.9; YLT)

The master gives orders, the slave obeys. The master orders the slave to go, he goes. The master orders the slave to come, he comes.

The relationship is very clear. The master is a person who gives commands; he does not take commands.

Are we masters of money? Are we giving commands to money or taking commands from money.

A slave takes commands. The life a slave is controlled by the master. The master decides his going and coming. A slave cannot stay nor leave without the master’s permission.

The slave works, not the master. The salve works for the prosperity of the master.

If we are the masters of money:

We should give commands to money; never take commands from money.

Money stays with us or goes away from us only at our command.

We control money, never let money control us.

Money should work for our prosperity.

We come across many ‘keepers of money’. A master put the slave to work. A master is not a keeper of slaves. One, who hoards money, safeguard if from thieves and never lives with it, is only a keeper of money. He is a keeper appointed by the money for its own safety.

Only a master can command a slave to go out and work.

Only a master can spend money. A slave hoards it for someone else to spend it.

A master is happy with a large number of slaves. A keeper is worried with the plenty of money.

Master allows slaves to go out to work and come back with the harvest. A keeper always shuts the door and guard it. Money gone is gone for ever for him.

He has no command over money because he is only a slave.

A slave cannot add slaves. Only a master can add more slaves.

Only a master of money finds more gold and adds to his treasury.

A keeper is in constant fear of loss of gold. A master is confident of his authority over the slave.

A master of money knows that money goes only when he commands it to go, comes when he commands it to come. A master has the authority to call back any money that has gone out.

A slave cannot protect the master – the master protects the salve.

Only a master of money can protect wealth.
